Essential Oils For Hormone Balance

Essential oils might not be one of the first things you think of for natural hormone help but they should be!  They can be used for literally anything and everything and are truly one of nature’s finest medicines.

Most people use oils aromatically (breathing them in) or topically.  Some people use them internally as well and if you decide to do that please make sure you are using high quality oils and only oils that are known to be ok to take as a supplement.  I personally don’t take them internally very often as I’m not totally comfortable with the idea of it but you do you!

No matter what phase you’re in from puberty to menopause and after, essential oils can be used for symptom relief but also to help naturally restore hormone balance.

Here’s a list of some of my favorite hormone balancing essential oils!

  1. Clary Sage- this oil is a wonderful oil for hormone balance and can help to reduce cortisol, supports the thyroid, balances estrogen and can improve mood.  Many essential oil hormone blends are centered around clary sage. Super helpful with PMS and cramps. Mix with a drop or 2 of lemon and apply to the inner ankle area or over abdomen/ovary area.

  2. Peppermint- helpful for irritability, excess heat, headaches and cramps that can begin with PMS and stick around during your period.  Using Peppermint in a spray bottle or applied to the back of the neck or elbow creases can help with hot flashes and night sweats when applied before bed.

  3. Lavender- let’s be honest, lavender makes everything better!  Helpful for calming the mind, getting better sleep, relaxing your muscles, and boosting your mood- all things that are needed at some point in your cycle!

  4. Bergamot- an amazing citrus oil that is the ultimate in creating a calm but uplifting vibe.  A stress buster for sure and capable of chilling the body out and lowering cortisol. Don’t apply to your skin and go out in the sun, bergamot is very phototoxic.

  5. Basil- wonderful for your adrenals, soothing to your nervous system and helpful for sleep.  You can combine a drop or 2 of basil with 2 drops lavender and rub on your back over the kidney/adrenal area daily.

  6. Lemongrass-helpful for the thyroid and can be diluted and applied with a drop of frankincense to the thyroid area on the neck.

  7. Thyme- helps with progesterone production.  Many hormonal issues can be due to low progesterone or excess estrogen so thyme is a great oil to have in a hormone blend.  

  8. Frankincense- the king of oils, of course it has to be on the list!  Helpful for the pituitary and pineal glands which are kind of a big deal when you’re talkin hormones!

There are so many amazing hormone balance blends out there but here are a few of my favorites!

Kill the Cramps Blend

3 drops Clary Sage

2 drops Peppermint

2 drops Lavender

2 drops Frankincense

3 drops Copaiba

3 drops Bergamot

Mix in a 10ml roller bottle and top of with your choice of carrier oil.
