Sports massage uses many different techniques and modalities. The ones you use at any given time mainly depends on the timing of your massage. For example, if you have work right before an event starts it would consist of stretching and light to medium pressure strokes with the main focus on increasing blood flow and preparing your muscles for peak performance.
If you're getting a sports massage during the training period or between events then we may use deep tissue, neuromuscular, stretching and myofascial work to help with chronic pain or recover from an injury. Athletes often develop chronic areas of pain or tightness due to repetitive motions, over exertion or improper body mechanics. Each sport poses it's own challenges and common areas that need special attention.
